A·S·K was established in 1983 by Gregory S. Abrams to represent bankruptcy estates in the recovery of avoidance claims.  A·S·K has gained vast experience in representing hundreds of bankruptcy estates across the country.  We are the nation's leading law firm in avoidance claims analysis and litigation.  Since 2000 A·S·K has recovered more than $150 million from avoidance claims and negotiated claim waivers exceeding a dividend value of $20 million ($170,000,000 total recoveries).  During this time period we settled more than eight thousand (8,000) cases, including settlements over $100,000 in one hundred seventy-eight (178) cases aggregating $53 million.  Twenty-two (22) settlements were for over $500,000 and seven (7) were over $1 million.

The firm has extensive trial and appellate experience in preference litigation.  We have brought litigation in three hundred eighty-one (381) instances where the preference claim exceeded $1,000,000, and have tried approximately twenty (20) cases this decade.  Our litigation head, Joseph L. Steinfeld Jr., has extensive litigation and appellate experience had has argued hundreds of cases at the trial and appellate level, including the Supreme Court.  Mr. Steinfeld is first chair in all litigation exceeding $100,000 at issue and has had numerous million dollar plus verdicts upheld on appeal.  He is nationally recognized in the bankruptcy field as an expert in avoidance litigation.

The firm is co-managed by Gregory S. Abrams and Joseph L. Steinfeld, Jr., attorneys that share an extensive background in the intersection of insolvency and commercial law.  Mr. Abrams is both a specialist in avoidance and collection law and a systems analyst/designer of software programs geared toward organizing data related to analysis, monitoring and prosecution of large portfolios of preference claims.  Our partners have spoken extensively on the Prosecution and Defense of Avoidance Claims, and regularly conduct complimentary in-house firm seminars on the topic.
